MiSciFi – Microdocs Precision Agriculture Lab
Reducing Food Insecurity Through Precision Agriculture
We seek to promote technological programs to tackle food insecurity that involve increasing food production by using remote sensing tools, including satellites, to capture and collect data on various aspects of agricultural fields, such as crop health, soil moisture, and weather conditions.
- A course that teaches students to use tools to capture and process the data using specialized software and algorithms to create detailed maps and models of the fields is ready to be developed.
- Students will use the resulting information to analyze and identify patterns, trends, and areas requiring intervention or adjustments.
- Based on the student’s results, farmers can make informed decisions about irrigation, fertilization, planting, and harvesting, which can improve yields, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
- Students will also develop a pipeline for continuous monitoring and analysis of the data over time to help farmers make more precise and efficient decisions in managing their crops, leading to increased productivity and profitability.
